Summer

At Safari Kid, we understand that summer is the best time in a child’s life. Our summer programs offer children a great balance of academics, sports, making friends and learning new skills in a fun and nurtured environment.

Fun! Fun! Fun! That is how our students in the past have described our summer programs.

For summer 2018, our research team has worked with our teachers and curriculum developers to design the best of all activities for your child. Your child will become an App Inventor, build and program Lego robots, learn programming, design and print 3D models, participate in our Star Wars STEM program, compete in our Safari Olympics, go camping, learn about space travel, visit Facebook, Google and Tesla and create business plans at our Carnival to raise money for charity.

3-D Printing/Design

The students’ creations can then be 3-D printed or downloaded on Thingverse or Minecraft.

Using TinkerCad, students will learn how to create geometric shapes using tools such as group, resize, and reshape, and how to combine geometric shapes to create 3-D models.

Art Studio

Kids love doing a variety of arts and crafts as an outlet to be creative and have some fun! Little do they know that through art they become a better problem solver, increase self-awareness, and learn to be more expressive.

In this week’s art camp children will learn different methods of abstract art through the work of Jackson Pollock. They will also learn different techniques of shading, sketching and drawing using the zentangle method.

Leader’s Academy

They will learn how young entrepreneurs started and developed these companies into what they are today. They will take the tour of the campus and will talk to a leader of the company. The last day children will be asked to share their experiences through a group presentation like a skit.

This is all about leadership, entrepreneurship, teamwork etc. They will learn about important facets of leadership and how to inculcate leadership qualities in themselves. Children will be visiting 3 major business campuses (e.g. Google, Facebook, Intel, Tesla) to understand how these companies work.

Python Programming

Python is a general-purpose, versatile and popular programming language. It’s great as a first language because it is concise and easy to read, and it is also a good language to have in any programmer’s stack as it can be used for everything from web development to software development and scientific applications.

This course is a great introduction to both fundamental programming concepts and the Python programming language. By the end, students will be familiar with Python syntax and be able to put into practice what they have learned in a final project.

Olympics

Children will be taught about the history of ancient and modern Olympics and will be shown videos of some popular moments in Olympic history. Children will be educated how participation is more important than winning.

In the Olympics, students will be taken to the park and will take part in heats (trials) of races like sprint, hurdles, lemon-on-the-spoon, 3-legged race, and other individual and team-relay races. The top contenders in each category will take part in the grand finale and the winners will be awarded in a presentation ceremony.

EV3 Building/Programming

Students will be taught how to make a simple robot with pieces from the Lego Mindstorms EV3 set. The students will then create basic EV3 programs on Lego Mindstorms software using the drag-and-drop sensor, movement and logic blocks.

Students will download these programs onto the robot and will execute them. These programs will make the robot move, turn and sense in order to accomplish tasks. Students will learn Core Values including collaboration and cooperation.

Star Wars STEM

In Star Wars STEM, students will do Star Wars related educational activities that will cover topics including symmetry, arts and crafts, arithmetic, making board games, writing, making costumes and weapons, and circuitry and science experiments.

Day Camp

Special focus on topics like surviving in the wilderness, physical education (P.E.), healthy living, gardening, and mapmaking.

In this weekly activity, children will be exposed to many enjoyable outdoor activities like how to set up tents, doing scavenger hunts, singing camping songs and researching insects.

Web Designing

They will have to research the topic given to them and think about the framework of the website they want to build. They will get familiar with reading, writing and debugging HTML code.

Students will choose from a list of topics and create a website using HTML and CSS.

Carnival

Kids will learn skills including unit pricing, production process, handling money, marketing and working together. Afterward, all the carnival earnings will be donated to a charity.

Children will spend the entire week preparing for the carnival and making goods to sell such as jewelry, artwork, and tickets to play games. On Friday, the carnival will be open to parents and the students will sell the objects they made.

Photography

Children will learn concepts such as exposure, aperture, shutter speed, ISO and will explore how these different factors affect the photos.

This course provides practical instruction in the fundamentals of digital photography.

Open Monday to Friday 6:30 am to 6:30 pm

My child went to Safari Kid in Milpitas, CA. This is an excellent school with a well-rounded curriculum. I happened to visit the Allen school – it’s pretty big with spacious classrooms and a huge playground. Kids would enjoy it here.
